In memory of my Grandmother
My father calls and gave the news, he sounds devastated, I contain myself and our talk was short. My grandmother dies at 10:30AM on May 14th, 2010.
Her name was Pascuala De Contreras, she was a hard working mother who raise 5 kids and I know that thanks to her all our family had better chances in life, she make us better, my Grandma shape much of what we are today.
We have many good memories, she loved her kitchen and everyone loved to eat at her house. Most of the time radio play old time soap operas, house full of day light, she will open the door and reaches from her trees some naranja agria (sour orange), lime, habanero, all kinds of fruit, she always had some fresh baked bread (pan frances), black beans some gouda cheese fry a couple of eggs, coffee, amazing. Amazing it’s what better describe how she cooked, my mother learned from her, and we are learning from my mother and some day we will teach our kids too.
The best way we know to honor her memory will be trough cooking, following all of her rituals preparing every dish, she was so meticulous when she cook that sometimes took her days to prepare a meal, we will keep doing that, not necessarily because we want to please our guests more because we want to paid tribute to a great woman a great chef!
We will be preparing what she liked to eat, visit our this weekend link to find out.. |
